Do you know someone that is truly dog-obsessed? Or do you have a friend or family member’s birthday coming up and you want to send them a card that is unique and silly?
Then why not send them one of our paw-some pop-up puppy cards? It is the ulti-MUTT card which they will keep FUR-ever, GUARANTEED!
– Thin white card 29.7 x 21 cm (A4)
– Template (download at aquila.co.uk/readers-page
– look for Templates and more on the right-hand side)
– Scissors
– Selection of coloured card
– Ruler
– Sharp pencil
– Eraser
– PVA glue
– Felt tips
– Craft knife (optional)
– Glue stick (optional)
Take your thin white A4 card and fold it carefully in half to create an A5 greeting card. Put this to one side, you won’t need it till later.
Cut out the template pieces you downloaded from our website. If you don’t have access to a printer you can draw them freehand using the template for measurements. Lay them on coloured card. With your pencil, carefully draw around the pieces, using a ruler for straight lines. Cut them all out and transfer the pencil marks from the template pieces to the real thing.
Take your base piece and, using a ruler, carefully fold along the marked lines.
With great care, cut along the line you’ve drawn in the centre of the base piece. If you can use a craft knife for this, do, but make sure you have a sensible adult on hand to help.
Using the ruler again for accuracy, fold along the line you’ve drawn on the ear piece. Then make sure the tab on the head piece fits snuggly in the gap between the ears. If it’s not a perfect fit, you can trim the tab on the head piece to make sure it is.
With PVA glue, glue the top of the long tongue piece into the gap between the ears. Make sure it’s straight. Put it somewhere safe to dry.
Glue the body to the base piece. Put it somewhere safe to dry.
With a black felt tip, draw the eyes.
Glue snout 1 onto the head piece.
Glue the nose onto snout 2, then glue that to the head. Add the eyes. Leave it to dry.
Place the rounded end of the tongue through the slit in the base piece. Spread a small amount of PVA around the top and the sides of the head piece and glue it to the base. Put it somewhere safe to dry.
This is what the back should look like.
On the base piece, spread a small amount of PVA glue on each fold. Stick it to the front of the A5 card.
Glue the tab on the back of the head piece to the top of the card. Leave it all to dry.
Write the word ‘PULL’ on the tongue and a short message on the inside of the ears.
And there you have it. A greeting card your best mate will never fur-get!
