Design a Climate Change Poster

Everyone’s talking about climate change but it’s important we keep spreading the news. We’d like you to follow in Greta Thunberg’s footsteps, and tell us how we can reduce our carbon and plastic output in the fight against climate change! Show us how persuasive you can be and create a poster convincing people they need to change their daily habits to protect planet Earth!

You will need

– Paper

– Pens or pencils

Step 1

If you want to be persuasive, you’ll need to create tension with a striking image and a dramatic slogan. On a piece of paper, sketch some initial ideas for the image and write down some snappy sentences for your message.

Step 2

Use the internet, books and newspapers to gather some useful facts (remember to check your sources). The UK Met Office has some fantastic information available on its website:

Select five to ten facts that might suit the theme of your poster. Select the most appropriate ones to include.

Step 3

Now you have a design concept and facts, you will need to put the information together on a page. Sketch your layout. Select punchy fonts and colours for all your text (the title, slogan and facts).

Step 4

Draw your image, add your slogan and facts, and finish your design. Time to admire your handiwork! Where will you display your poster for all to see?

CHALLENGE:

Could you create a visual metaphor with your image? An example of a climate change visual metaphor is an ice cream cone, with the Earth sitting on top as if it is a melting ball of ice cream. This implies that the Earth is like ice cream; the ice caps are melting and sea levels are rising.
