Make an Aladdin Sane decoration

Do you like your Christmas decorations with a little added pop culture? Then this Bowie-inspired make is for you! Let’s take inspiration from his persona, Aladdin Sane, and incorporate the iconic lightning bolt design into some festive fun!

YOU WILL NEED

Template

Collection of coloured cardboard packaging: red, white, black and blue

Black pen (optional)

Scissors

PVA glue

Sharp point

Modelling clay

Ribbon

STEP 1:

Print out the template or copy the shapes onto a piece of paper. Carefully cut the pieces out.

STEP 2:

Lay your template pieces on the relevant coloured cardboard packaging. We’ve gone for the classic combo: red for hair, white for face, red and blue for lightning bolt and black for eyelashes, but you can play around with whatever colours you like. Don’t worry too much about text or inconsistencies in your packaging. It’ll add to the pop art aesthetic. Start with drawing round and cutting out the red hair piece.

STEP 3:

Draw round and cut out the face piece. Stick it on top of the hair piece.

STEP 4:

Draw round and cut out the red and blue lightning bolt pieces and glue the red piece on top of the blue. Stick these on top of the face.

STEP 5:

Cut out and stick or draw on the eyes, nose and mouth pieces.

STEP 6:

Feel free to play. Add some extra elements in the hair or add some gold eco-glitter, if you like. Leave to dry.

STEP 7:

With some modelling clay to protect your work surface, take a sharp point and carefully put a hole in the top of your decoration.

STEP 8:

Thread some ribbon through the hole and tie it. Now hang your amazing Aladdin Sane on the Christmas tree for all to see!
